A while back I described pipe wrenches as ‘mine run’ tools.
That was a stupid thing to say.
The first two on top are self adjusting and both were made locally.
I dont know who manufactured the larger one but it was invented by James G Lind of Providence and patented in 1906. Raised letters on the side read “Lind universal wrench” and ”Providence”.
The second one is by ”The Bullard Automatic Wrench Company “, also of Providence.
Some early 1900′s magazine ads I Googled…
From ‘Hardware Dealers Magazine’ April 1907
From ‘The Iron Age’ Volume 84, No 23, December 1909.
I guess Bullards outsourced wrench manufacture.
The next wrench in the top photo is the most common type today. Made by The Ridge Tool Company of Elyria Ohio.
They are still in business and still make the model of wrench pictured.
Bottom wrench is often called a Stillson wrench. Invented by Daniel Stillson.
It was made by Walworth Mfg Co of Boston.
Edit: For size comp , the largest wrench is 14″ long.
